03Regional differences

According to vetfinder.gr a general check-up costs 25–45 € in Athens/Thessaloniki and 20–35 € in the provinces. In municipal stray-animal programmes (e.g. the Lixouri Municipality 2026 study) neutering and vaccine prices are much lower. These, however, are tender prices, not prices for owners.

04Tips before you pay

  • Ask for an “all-inclusive” neutering price (anaesthesia, medicines, follow-up, collar).
  • Keep the health booklet up to date, so you avoid repeating vaccines.
  • Check whether your municipality has a free or subsidised neutering programme.
  • For travel abroad you need a microchip, rabies vaccine and a pet passport. Book them in good time.
  • Pet insurance may be worth it for large-breed dogs with a high risk of surgery.
