02What affects the price
Determines the transfer fee, from 30 € up to 205 €.
Without a valid ΚΤΕΟ the transfer is rejected, so you may have to pay for an inspection first (50–60 €).
It must be paid off before the transfer.
If the car was bought on instalments, the bank/company has to lift it.
If you hand the procedure to an agency, its fee is added. Through gov.gr you do the transfer yourself.
03Regional differences
The fees are the same across Greece. They are paid with an e-fee or via a ΚΕΠ (Citizen Service Centre)/bank, into the account set by the competent Region. The transfer can now also be done digitally through gov.gr, so no visit to the Transport Authority (Μεταφορές) is needed.
04Tips before you pay
- Find the engine size on the registration licence (field P.1) before you issue the fee.
- Check on myCAR that there are no unpaid taxes or fines.
- Agree in writing who pays the fees: usually the buyer, but the law does not specify this between private individuals.
- Do not hand over the car before the transfer is complete. Until then, fines go to the seller.
- The buyer must insure the vehicle in their own name from the day of the transfer.
The step-by-step procedure (documents, where it is done) is on grafeiokratia.gr (in Greek).
