02What affects the price
At 70 €/person, every 20 fewer guests means 1,400 € less.
A summer Saturday is the most expensive option. Friday, Sunday or off-season work out cheaper.
An open bar can double the cost per person. Some venues also charge rent of 2,000–5,000 €.
A civil wedding has official municipality charges. For a religious one, the contribution to the church is set by the parish.
Photographer, DJ, decoration and dress can cost 5,000 € or more.
03Regional differences
In tourist municipalities civil-wedding charges are noticeably higher for non-residents and for ceremonies outside the town hall or outside opening hours. In Hersonissos, Crete, for example, they reach 350 €. Receptions on islands (destination weddings) start from 100 € per person. In Attica, estates with catering usually run 50–120 €.
04Tips before you pay
- Fix the number of guests and the date first, and then ask for quotes.
- Ask whether the per-person price includes VAT, drinks, venue rent and extended hours.
- For a civil wedding, ask the municipality for the charge for residents and non-residents and the opening hours.
- A Friday or Sunday and a date outside June–September cut the cost noticeably.
- Get the marriage licence in good time: it needs an e-fee and publication.
